This month I, along with several other East Midlands bloggers, were kindly invited to a cocktail masterclass hosted by Nottingham Loves Cocktails. This was ahead of the cocktail festival of the same name which is coming to Nottingham at the end of the month. The masterclass was held at Nottingham bar Brass Monkey, which is one of the many venues taking part in the festival.
During the 2 hour event Nick Fox, creator of Loves Cocktails, sat down with us in the bar's patio and told us about the inspiration behind the inception of the festival and answered all of our cocktail related questions - as well as indulging us with samples of a few of his favourite cocktails, provided by Brass Monkey.
Nick's passion for cocktails became evident as he delved into cocktail history - explaining nuances such as the reasons behind the rise and fall of certain cocktail trends - and whilst he explained how he wants people to favour quality over quantity when it comes to cocktails, giving examples of how this can be done.
My cocktail intake for the evening has me slightly hazy on all the details, but I'm sure you will get all the info and more at the event!
The generous amount of cocktails that we were treated to during the masterclass included a unique take on the classic Tom Collins that contained apple juice and thyme, Margaritas with pineapple and basil, and French Martini shots. It was a great evening! Details on the festival below:
Loves Cocktails began in 2013 in Leeds and has since continued to expand across various cities. This will be the first year that it will come to Nottingham.
The Nottingham festival will take place across many of Nottingham's best bars and venues, including Boiler Maker, Pepper Rocks & Red Dog Saloon. It will run from Mon 24th - Sun 30th April, and each day and night is packed with various events, workshops and themed parties (including a Pirate Party and a Caribbean food & drinks night). You can find the full timetable here.
Wristbands for the festival cost £10 (£6.50 student, £5 industry) and will allow you full access to all the venues and events across the 7 day festival. This also includes access to the high quality cocktails curated for the event at a low price. You can purchase your wristband here and they can be collected at The Orange Tree pub.
See you there!
